For this play by Larissa FastHorse at the Station Theatre in Urbana, IL in 2022 I did many things.
I designed both the sets and the costumes, I painted the set, built and acquired the costumes, did set dressings, and was the prop master. It was quite a stressful build, But I feel like it payed off.
The sets and costumes were mentioned in an article by The News-Gazette out of Urbana, IL. The article can be found here:https://www.news-gazette.com/arts-entertainment/theater/review-jeffrey-eric-jenkins-easy-targets-in-station-theatres-the-thanksgiving-play/article_da856d8b-14ef-54c2-a61d-53e12fa20c4a.html?fbclid=IwAR11fyMevnEbIfVYjovwEl7VoCePjy0yaGs9YKiGr_6Jv0k-X-ESDlD7AvE
Full view of the set.
original drawing of the stage, things did change.
first thought of the set before seeing the actual theatre space. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be.
Posters made for theatrical events in this made up community.
Posters for shows that should not be done by high schoolers made on photoshop. They are low budget productions.
More posters
Final batch of fake posters.
"Paper bag" pilgram costumes made out of heavily starched and painted bed sheets. The Hats are made out of scrapbook paper. The hats are all slightly off, like they would be if a kintergarten class made them.
Costume for the character jaxon.
Chief Illiniwek painted on the side of the bag and distressed. We were in the town of Urbana which has University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign...or former host of the Chief Illiniwek mascot. The thought behind this was he is a proud alumni who has just forgotten the implications of the mascot after many years.
More of the tote bag as well as a tote bag against straw usage that I made for the show in the background.
Alessia's costume.
Turkey Puppets for this interlude.
This costume had a few modifications. The sleeves and collar were cut and the turkey in a pilgrim hat was ironed on to the dress to make this feel like a 90's/00's teacher look.
Posters, trophies, and pictures were added to make this wall look like a real classroom. The pictures on the wall of stars are old pictures of the director, cast, and crew. The trophies were thrifted and lightly distressed.
Chaotic ending costumes
The leaf necklace she is wearing is made from real leaves that are just smashed between ironed sheets of hot glue. As wild as that seems, we wanted a necklace that looked very homemade and fall festive. I had limited supplies in my hometown to make it very fall. It was fun to see that throughout the production, the leaves would change colors as they continued to brown..
