Hello!
I am a 25 year old prop artisan based out of NYC. I love building props because of the stories they tell. I view props as the possessions you put on the moving truck; they are important both emotionally and practically to you and your needs.
I started building things at a young age with my dad. Every weekend we'd go outside and build things for my mom and eventually, I'd build things for 4-H projects. I did Interior design projects and modified/built different furniture pieces every year. I was involved in 4-H for seven years and took my interior design projects to the Illinois State Fair for six years.
In middle school, I auditioned for my first musical. I got cast as “Ensemble: Beatnik” in a show called The Nifty Fifties. I did not enjoy being on stage however, I did enjoy the atmosphere and the structure that it gave me. I kept doing it in 8th grade and my freshman year of high school, I learned how to run lights for shows and performances. I really enjoyed that part of the theatre. I ran sound board and light board for my high school acapella group for two years and enjoyed that. I loved being part of the performance while not being looked at.
Eventually, I graduated high school and looked for a path to go down. I had decided Vocal Music Education would be awesome, the highlight of my school year would be the musicals. They would be a spectacle. It had not occurred to me to just get a theatre degree. Between graduating high school and starting my first day of college I had changed majors. My freshman academic counselor said “Theatre will not lead to a fruitful career.” Everyday, I am thankful I did not listen to her and listened to my heart instead.
Since college, I have worked at Great River Shakespeare Festival (‘22), Utah Shakespeare Festival (‘23 and ‘24), The Juilliard School (‘24-’25), and a handful of freelance jobs. Every place I’ve worked at I found what I have loved the most are the people. Theatre people are magical; I can start a conversation because we all have something in common that brings us joy. The love of this temporary art form we’ve created together is intoxicating. I love being a small part of the big picture.
Outside of theatre, I love to watch movies, kayak, hike, play music, be outside, write, and go camping. I am also a family oriented individual, in both my family of origin and my found family.
